The carry trade is pretty small compared to the entire market tbh (and much of it goes into USTs anyway). But the whole world has been pouring money into US big tech stocks because they are global monopolies and you can't buy them anywhere else. And this was superpowered by the massive expansion in derivative trading, which leverages cash many times over, which itself was superpowered by insane levels of direct government stimulus during covid, all of which was on top of a decade of very low or zero interest rates (which made borrowing essentially free and lowered the RoI bar to below zero) and extremely expansive monetary policy. So it's no freaking wonder asset prices went to the moon. It's been a confluence of multiple events that has lined up to boost US equities like never before.  But is was probably a once in a generation occurrence and even now the boost is fading. But investors have been conditioned to number always going up and can't conceive of anything else so they are telling themselves fairy stories about super intelligent chatbots taking us to utopia in order to justify buying a handful of extremely overpriced companies.

Quality DD here: Im a bartender at an upscale restaurant and the number of twenty somethings sitting at my bar talking about “trading strategies” and “portfolio gains” is alarming. It’s like sure bro, everything is hitting ATH I’m sure your trading strategy is working quite well for you. The last time it got like this was Dec 2021. Full disclosure, I’m a perma bull.
