I’m gonna guess the bulk of the ad dollars comes from retailers and physical products. Im guessing some small site trying to sell their *content* didn’t really provide much ad revenue to GOOG anyway. So if I search for “galoshes” and GOOG explains what a galosh is, that doesn’t hurt Zappos. People still scroll down to the Zappos links. An article about galoshes is different than an actual shoe.  But the International Encyclopedia of Footwear which I spent a lifetime authoring so that I could sell subscriptions to it, well no one’s gonna click on that.

Like 10 or 15 years ago, web creators were mad at GOOG for summarizing web pages and presenting the summaries at the top of search results. Search users didn't even click through to the actual sites which had provided the actual content (which GOOG stole, I mean summarized). AI is that sort of thing on steroids. There's no profit in human-made content now. Just let AI make it. There's no point in people any more. Calls on machines. Puts on people.
