Demand for dollars allows us to print more dollars and sell US Treasuries without massively devaluing dollar. This the “dollar is the worlds reserve currency” piece. Remove the force projection (NATO drama), remove the free trade (tariffs), demand for dollars goes down, demand for US Treasuries goes down. But we still have to print dollars (deficit spending), so the value goes down. Gold looks good when the “reserve currency” looks bad. The demand for US treasuries going down also means that yields should go up. If the dollar is low, you need a higher return to justify purchasing US debt, which is repaid in dollars.
