Why is it low volume despite CPI? Because no one gives a fuck because the data that market was reacting to was jobs data. The admin fired the person in charge of it, shut down the Govt, and then banned ADP from providing jobs reports to the Fed. Hurr durr, sounds like tin foil! I'm just not sure what number even helps the market price anything. There's no ADP data, jolt isn't until after fomc rate decision. Fed flying blind with one data point. They could very well say they will pause until there's data to make a decision on.

Yeah and ADP said we lost 32 k in september but I’ve also seen RPLS / revelio saying we gained 60 k and the feds warn index say there aren’t many planned layoffs and I’ve seen a lot of people at the fed and elsewhere including powell state the economy might be in a low hire low fire state rn with the uncertainty and while the tariffs take a longer pass through than everyone anticipated (estimated ~50 % affect on inflation felt so far by some) I’m pretty bearish and I have not liked hearing those more optimistic takes.

Re ADP data. Yes it isn't amazing but it is literally impossible to not get stagnant job growth when prime age participation is maxed out. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. It is mathematically impossible to have job growth when we are decreasing the foreign born working population actively and labor force participation is at historical highs. What matters is people actually getting laid off in mass, it isn't happening.

ADP showed job losses in September. No nonfarm payroll number on Friday because of the shutdown, so that is the best we get at least this week. Bad jobs number means more Fed cuts.
